3 FEB 2023: Looks like copper is all the craze and trending right now in the RO water purifier space. Copper is know to kill germs when water is kept in it overnight. Something our ancestors used to do for millennia; store water in a copper vessel as prescribed by Ayurveda.
OK here we start
The Good News! if you have decided to go for Kent Pearl water purifier, congratulations you have made a credible decision! This is a quality product and it delivers what it promises; Pure Water* Kent Pearl is one of the top model, which I prefer over others in its price range for reason I will be sharing later in the blog.
Disclaimer: the intent of this article is to make you aware of what to expect in a water purifier, particularly a RO (Reverse Osmosis) type. By no means this is a recommendation of any sort.
Do your bit of research before making a choice.
First, I am starting with a quick look at the features of the Kent Pearl RO water purifier and its pros and cons. second, I talk about what to look for before buying a RO purifier, how RO purifier works, what is it made of, stages of filtration, service, maintenance and spares and finally a verdict.
Kent Water purifier Review model Pearl
Features and Specification:
Purification by RO membrane and UV, with TDS control.
Image courtesy: Kent.co.in - Detachable storage tank for easy cleaning.
- 8 Liters storage capacity.
- Computer Controlled Operation with Filter Change Alarm & UV Fail Alarm.***
- Purification Capacity - 15Ltrs/Hour (at room temperature and 750 PPM of water) ****
After about a year or so of use the alarms go "beep beep beep"!! it sounds for a minute or so when the purifier is powered ON and then everything is normal. Another gimmick to fool consumers to believe that something is wrong and to buying a new control board!
I had new filter spares installed at about 10 months of use (my water is very bad) that's 2 months prior to alarms turning ON! clearly the so called computer control (which actually isn't there) couldn't tell that i already have replaced new filters.
update : 24 Dec 2015. see the video on how to reset the alarm at the end of the blog.
Please note: These links are provided for convenience and I do not have any affiliate partnership with any of them (I dont make money from sharing these links) . Also I suggest you should compare this product (Kent pearl) with other brands, learn about what they offer and make your choice.
- Delivers pure water as promised
- The build quality is very good. food grade plastic been used.
- Transparent & Detachable storage tank for easy cleaning.
- Automatic start up when water level is low and automatic stop when full.
- Can be placed on table or put on the wall.
- Elegant look.
- 1/4 inch quick fit connectors, which is simple to connect and disconnect, in case you want to do some maintenance yourself or clean the pre-filter.
5 Things to Consider Before You Buy a RO Water Purifier:
Choose your brand
why go for a brand? that's because its a matter of trust. A good brand will have quality parts and reliable performance. How many Purifier stages are needed?
you would have noticed manufacturers claiming stages of purification ranging from 5 to 10 and beyond. Make sure your choice of purifier must have a RO membrane, UV and TDS control. the rest of the other claimed stages will fall in place; no need to worry about how many stages.Water purifiers with RO, UV and TDS control are usually the top end models and do cost more, you also have the option to choose a RO only model (without UV and TDS control)
Call for a demo.
Check pressure of inlet water
Also when you are installing your purifier, insist the service engineer to open up the RO membrane housing and visually check the RO membrane side wall it should look white like new!
- PS; newer models may come with sealed membrane housing to prevent tampering.
Pre-filter housing |
Install a pre-filter.
Although optional, its always wise to install a pre-filter. A pre-filter is an external attachment that filters suspended particles like sand, dirt & rust etc. present in the inlet water. This also increases the service life of the filters. The cartridge inside its housing collects the suspended particles. its cheaper to change the pre-filter cartridge and you need to change it every 2 to 3 months (depending on water quality)Water Purifier Maintenance
- When there is a need to replace a filter consider replacing both the sediment and carbon filters at the same time because if one fails the other is likely fail as well.
- Usually your purifier is covered by a 1 year warranty for the RO membrane and filters. some manufacturers provide only a 6 month warranty on filter spares. so its advised to service your purifier around 5th months of use, while its still under warranty and save your self money.
TDS Meter:
It's a good idea to keep a TDS meter handy. Keep a check on TDS of your drinking water at least once in a month. If the TDS of the inlet water has gone up (assuming you buy water from different sources) more likely the TDS of your purified water would have gone up as well. Please read on to know more about how the quality of your water affects the life of the Purifier. This may also serve as a guide to choosing your water purifier.
You must know this!
A RO (reverse osmosis) water purifier uses a RO membrane that removes the dissolved salts and minerals and completely eliminates bacteria and viruses. the membrane is made of multiple layers of thin sheet with tiny pores in it, rolled and cased inside the membrane housing. (see video at the bottom of the page)
The pores are so small even viruses are blocked and removed. only water molecules pass through the membrane that is free of salts and germs.
legends
MF = micro filtration UF = ultra filtration
NF = nano filtration RO = reverse osmosis filtration
|
Along with the RO membrane, a good purifiers will also have a UF membrane (UF - Ultra Filtration membrane) that just like the RO membrane filters out germs but allows only useful minerals to pass through; this water is then mixed with RO membrane output water to add back minerals.
The TDS control valve lets you adjust the required quantity of useful minerals. A TDS meter can tell how much useful minerals have been added back. Some purifiers are equipped with a mineral cartridge in the final stages to add more minerals and these will be marketed as mineral RO purifier just to make a few extra bucks!
Please note, the minerals in question are found in water only in trace (very less) amount. Pure RO water will be crisper with no taste. presence of minerals adds taste to water.
Here is a quick look at the TDS scale
Bottled water usually have a TDS set at ~25ppm.
Bottled mineral water will have a TDS around 200ppm or more. This sound a lot but these are essential salts.
Fun test with a RO water purifier
requirements; RO water purifier, a cup, TDS meter and common salt.1. take a cup of RO purified water, note the TDS.
2. add a pinch of common salt to the glass of water.
3. Measure the TDS!
Filtration Stages in RO water purifier
I am listing the most basic and important stages required. though some manufacturers may introduce one of more stages here and there, giving them fancy names to grab your attention.
Stages are placed in the order water is treated. water goes to stage1 and then to stage2 an so on.
The Pearl model covers all these stages!
- Pre-Filter; this stage is optional, but good to have as discussed earlier.
- Sediment Filter; removes suspended particles that were left behind by pre-filter or does the same job as pre-filter when this is the first stage.
- Pre-Carbon filter; removes chlorine and organic compounds. germs pass through!
- RO membrane; removes dissolved salts and germs.
- UF membrane; removes germs but allows some useful salts. please note that some purifiers don't use this membrane, rather they divert water output of the pre-carbon filter (with germs, that will be killed in the UV stage) and mix it with RO water output.
- TDS controller; this is just a valve that controls how much water from the UF membrane or pre-carbon filter gets mixed up with water output of RO membrane to add back some useful salts.
- Ultra Violet chamber(UV); water from the RO and UF membrane (or pre-carbon) are further processed with UV light to kill (De-activate ) the left over germs.
- Post-Carbon filter; similar to pre-carbon, removes chlorine and odor and makes the water taste better.
Flow restrictor tube; this is a small valve placed on the reject water outlet of the RO membrane housing. its job is to let out reject water at a fixed flow rate. this ensures optimal pressure inside the RO membrane housing.
There is also a power supply unit powering the control circuit board which controls the functioning of the entire system; sensing the inlet pressure, turning on the booster pump and solenoid valve, powering the UV lamp chamber, sensing the storage tank for water level, and shutting off the pump when the storage tank is full.
Here is a schematic showing how the various stages are connected, please note this will vary with different manufacturers.

When to call service
- You better take advantage of the warranty period, most branded purifiers come with a 1 year warranty. sufficiently long time to evaluate your purifier and fix faulty parts.
- Make sure the service engineer reaches your place earlier in the day, so he is fresh and has all day to fix your purifier.
- Call service around 5th month and 10th month just to do a routine check on the health of the purifier.
- Call service if you feel the drinking water output has slowed down. you can do this by noting the time it takes to fill or by visual check, that's why go for a transparent and detachable storage tank.
- Call service if you feel the reject water output has slowed down or stopped altogether.
Installation & Service gimmicks!
Installation and Service are two extremes and always opposite, here's how
Installation attitude ; Super fast, done same day, happy to serve, call me anytime - No problem. Here is your bill. Thank you!
Don't forget to get your warranty stamped. Always buy from a authorized dealer. The guy who installs will not show up again. his job is done. His target is to install the thing. He wouldn't care to suggest you things like a pre-filter or a water pressure booster when its most needed.
A pre-filter is optional, installation will go through even without it. why would he bother to save your money. perhaps the idea is to make more money out of spares. you only realize that your sediment and carbon filters have clogged up and prematurely failed because your water is so bad, only a pre-filter could have saved them.
Insist on a pre-filter installation, this might cost you a bit more but its worth it. you can also buy it on
Water pressure
Pressure will be a bit less on the top floor of the house. with such low pressure the purifier may sometimes not even start. to avoid this the installation guy usually tries to disable the pressure switch. what happens is the booster pump keeps running even when there is low pressure or no water at the inlet. this will ruin the pump and also since pressure is less the water output will be slow and will take lot more time to fill the storage tank.Make sure to check if the pressure switch feature works. how to check? An inlet valve will usually be installed on the inlet water pipe. simply turn off this valve while your purifier is working, purifier should stop in a few seconds! and should start back once the inlet valve is opened.
Make sure the TDS of your purifier is set in the range of 40ppm to 80ppm.
Service attitude ; super slow, usually not done in a day, happy to serve more spares, call me anytime (but i may not be available), I'm done for the day. here's the bill for spares. Good Bye!
Usually 9/10 times a lousy service engineer ends up at your door. He seems to know only as much required to get your water purifier working. Recall that i mentioned about having the service engineer reach your place early in the day? That's because you buy more time for him, just in case he finds that a spare is not available in his service kit right away and it has to be procured from a warehouse located else where. so you at least can hope the he gets the spare and your purifier will be fixed the same day.
Service engineers who attend your service request late in the day usually try to give excuses, they are human after all, tired after a long days work, they try to run away without fixing your purifier, promising to return the next day. They usually don't show up and you end up calling them again.
Beware! Any faulty part needs to be replaced with a new one. A service engineer in a hurry might bypass faulty parts compromising the very purpose of your water purifier.
for eg a sediment filter can be bypassed by connecting its inlet and outlet together thus removing the sediment filter stage! the same can be done for any stage!.
Sometimes they replace faulty parts with used spares, they do this usually during the warranty period since they have to bear the cost of spares. you can visually inspect the spares by looking into the inlet and outlet and it should be clean like new. used spares will have muddy/dark deposits in the inlet and outlet.
A note on RO water purifier spares
This is where manufacturers and service provider make lot of money. Spares are usually sold at unreasonably high cost! Go for a purifier with 1/4" QC (1/4 inch Quick Connect) fittings, this is usually the standard for domestic RO purifiers. there are lot of suppliers who make filter spares for 1/4" QC fitting. You can buy then online for less price! These spares will just work as good as the so claimed genuine ones if not better.
video on "Quick Connect fitting"
Here's my verdict on the Kent Pearl Water purifier:
- Build quality and look.
- Removable storage tank.
- Reliable operation.
- Original spares are costly.
- service is not good.
- Not suitable for TDS >500.
- Filter change alarm is not reliable.
- Sharp inner edges makes cleaning the tank a bit challenging.
- openings on the back, ants and cockroaches can get in!
If you are already familiar with the cockroach problem, you can make an organic bait to control them. Read my blog COCKROACHES.. why I like them! & the DIY recipe to kill them!

Important buying decision
1. if you are spending around 15000 INR or more, make sure to get a purifier with RO +UF+UV. there are some models without UV but been sold at the same price as models with UV!
2. Don't buy purifiers with fixed and opaque tanks.
update : 02 DEC 2018
After many years of using ebay/amazon bought UF membrane I figured out most of the UF membrane sold online are FAKE!! Those UF membranes are just sediment filters.
If you need to buy a genuine hollow fiber UF membrane
buy this one ( the brand names could be different) so please check
I bought one and its genuine. you could actually see the hollow fiber tubes on the side (image only for reference) UF membrane small 4 inch for Kent Pearl A few trusted sellers on amazon I have purchased spares from > Pokar RO systems & Aqua Fine 25 Dec 2021 : updated UF membrane link and added seller info. I do not have any association with these seller. Please research before buying. |

Very very good info for old users and new buyers. I am using kent pearl from 2 years. Tds is around 350. i also have pre filter installed and changed after every 5-6 months. now it started giving slow water. Consumption is around 2 tanks per day. I think i am late in replacing the filters. Now Should i replace all filters like sediment, pre, post carbon filter, RO membrane , FRT, UV lamp etc..
2. Like filmtec dow for RO memberane and kemflo for pre filter, Please tell top brands for sediment and carbon filters.Do kent also use these filter brands or they use some other.
Thanks for your time.
All the reviews had taken away all my worries about Kent RO.
Thanks for sharing!!
Household Pressure Pumps
all three models you mentioned will do their job great. i havent used pureit and quaguard so i cant tell much in terms of practical usage.
going by the specs, aquaguard and pureit has good looks and some new parts eg EMLE in aquaguard and the germkit indicaions in pureit. both pureit and aquauard claims a TDS upto 2000 which is good. kent will work well upto 750 TDS.
tanks size : kent - 8 lts, aquaguard - 7 lts pureit - 10 lts.
more on the pureit ultima;
sure the purifier looks futuristic with the display and design. in my opinion the display at best is no more than a gimmick.
the purifier works on preset timing for the life time indication for germkill kit 1 and 2. for eg after 185 hours of usage the GKK1 indicator will prompt you to replace it. 185 hours is like 6 months, assuming 1 hour usage per day.
if your TDS is low and the water does not have much impurities the filter can go more than 185 hours, with high TDS and lot of sediments the filter will fail sooner. all or most manufacturers stick to this timing based indications which is misleading.
then you have the TDS indicator bars which shows "TDS in" and "TDS out". what information can you get just by looking at some bars?
obviously there is no dedicated TDS meter used for measuring, inside the purifier. only a TDS meter can show you the actual TDS value in numbers. looks like they use some sort of water resistivity check which is simpler to do with less electronic components than using a real TDS meter. more TDS means more salts, meaning less resistance (salt conducts electricity)
so i guess the the "TDS in" will always show all the bars. and "TDS out" will show 2 to 3 bars at max indicating a low TDS safe for drinking.
end of the day, except for the design and display, all three models are pretty much the same. you pay around 5K more just for the blue display.
lastly and importantly, after sales service in your area. you want to make sure who provides good service.
I suggest you try a demo of all three models and see which one you like.
good day

filters usually have a 4000 litres life span. based on your usage change it regularly. they cost less than a meal at your favorite restaurant.
cheers
VN
if the pre filter catridge has turned brown (light to medium brown) completely its time to replace
if the catrdige is dark brown, its too late!
sediment and carbon filters;
filter life is usually 4000 litres (of water passing through it)
your case; for 2 tanks of drinking water (16 ltrs) the reject water is 50-60 litres.
thats 1:4 ratio for a household RO membrane (4 ltrs of reject water for every 1 litre of drinking water)
in your case total water processed per day is ~70 litres. (55 + 16)
4000 ltrs/70 ltrs = 57 days or 2 months.
ideally you should be changing filters (carbon and sediment) every 2 months!
if even after 2 months of usage you still feel the purifier output is normal (water not slowed down) give it another month of usage. give it more time till you feel the water output has really slowed down before u change it.
its best to change the sediment and carbon filter together so you can keep track of its usage and also avoid scenario where you replaced one and the other filter failed just a few days later.
RO and FRT needs to be replaced together.
UV lamp degrades with use so replace it every one year. i was using it for almost 18 months and thought of replacing it. i then figured out it had already failed a while ago! no indication nothing from the so called microcontroller!
2. there is no other brand for filters i can think of. kent brand uses a good quality one. use kents spares if you can. but they cost more.
good day

My Kent Grand has started beeping. The service guys want 4500 for the replacement of all the parts and I know I can do it on my own. Already bought myself a DOW Flowtec RO and will be changing all of the things myself.
One quick thing - Do you house the membrane in some kind of enclosure? My replacement RO filter hasn't arrived yet but from the looks of it, it looks like it doesn't come with an enclosure. Also the one in the Kent system looks sealed. How do you add the replacement part?
Another question, the carbon filtration is a chemical cleansing but I see that the pre and post carbon filtration filters are colored differently (white and blue respectively). Why'd that be? Any hints, just for my understanding?
on your question about the housing, if you are seeing a sealed RO housing, you may have to buy the housing seperately since you have already bought the RO membrane. RO with sealed housing is also available on ebay. better to stick with unsealed one since you have to keep changing the RO membrane.
on the type of carbon filters, the difference between post and pre carbon that i can think of is the carbon granule size. post carbon deals with purified water so the water can pass through quickly unlike the pre carbon filter where you need the unprocessed water to pass through it for a sufficient time to effectively remove contaminants.
usally post and pre carbon filters are used interchangeably if they are the same size unless specified.
and if sizes are different (for eg kent pearl), the small one is used as post filter.
good day

Still haven't been able to reset the beep. Tried doing all the options. The intermittent beep simply turns to a continuous beep. There must be some kind of powered memory retention mechanism in there, possibly powered by a small CR2032. Will try opening the circuit board this weekend.

you have to replace the faulty part, some time this could just be a connector issue that needs to be snapped properly.
I would like to share my something here which i experience in last 2 days.
I shifted to a rental house in AECS layout D block where everyone says kaveri water is there. As i was used to 20ltr bottled water , i felt it is not healthy and worth money..
hence i decided to have a water purifier . after consulting my friends/colleagues yesterday , Reliance Digital is the best one for less price as we can bargain there..
with that mindset , yesterday afternoon i went to reliance Digital Marathahalli , and first question asked by reliance digital executive was " which water at my house"?
i told i have got kaveri water . hence they suggested me " HUL PureIt Marvello UV worth 8870 .
But i had thought for a while, and then asked that executive "in future if i shift to area where there is no kaveri water, only borewell or corpration (other hard water), then i need a purifer which can be flexible for any type of water "
then i suggested to go for " HUL PureIt marvell RO worth 16,500 . later with barganing i purchased that one for 15k along with 2 yrs additional warranty for 3909 Rs.
they promised to deliver by next day.
next day i got it delivered and PureIt technician came for installation. when he tested my water TDS , it found to be 220 TDS!.
then told me , with this TDS this Marvello RO is not suitable!!!!! , then i was really disappointed... he told this RO will remove this low TDS water all the useful mineral , salt along with impuriteis , hence water will not be tastly and salty.
then immidiately i went back to reliance Digital, and got into arguement mode why they cheated like this..
then as there was no other optionas i had already invested money with them, hence i decided to go for any purifier suitable for present kaveri water (TDS 220) and any water type in future..
then they sugested me :KENT PEARL worth 16,990. again after barganing i got it for 15700 .
Now, i am requesting you to please help me if soemthing wrong with my decision, purchse.
please help.
thanks

Thanks for taking time to read this. I understand this information is exhaustive and you totally missed out on the TDS part!
your decision to go with RO is sensible.
Im sure somewhere in the blog I would have emphasized on "going for a RO model with TDS control"
a TDS of 220 is low! this is good for your RO purifier. the more the TDS the sooner the RO membrane will give up.
the technician was right when he said marvella RO was not the right purifier for this low TDS of 220. it would have still worked fine and water would have tasted just like you bottled water which has TDS of around 25.
this is too low a TDS (25) and doesn't do any good. its as good as no essential minerals.
just to clarify, water will taste good only when there is certain amount of TDS (100-150). bottled water tastes crisp, its actually tasteless! this is only subjective. if you were happy with the taste of bottled water, Marvello RO would have worked just fine for you.
Kent Pearl is a better choice because it has TDS control and you can change filters yourself with little help. since it uses 1/4 QC fitting, which is standard, you get parts online for less.
on the extended warranty; please never buy any extended warranty for any product. these are just useless and a ripp off. for the 220 TDS you have, kent pearl should work without any issue for a year assuming 1 tank per day. and you only need about INR 2500/- to replace all the filters and RO membrane for another year of use.
i replace sediment and precarbon filters every 6 months and post carbon and RO every 12 months. UV lamp may fail in about 18 - 24 months depending on usage - check every year while replacing RO membrane.
installing a prefilter will prolong the life of other filters and replace pre filter catridge every 3 months.
insist on RO replacement every 12 months, see if this is covered in your extended warranty.
about 3000 INR for yearly maintainance is a small money to pay for healthy cup of water :)
hope this is helpful
good day

Ozone Generator & Ozone Waste Water Treatment
Admire your perseverance in keeping this blog active and alive for over 2 years! The comments and the follow-up notes have really made this blog a ready reckoner for Kent RO Purifier servicing...thanks for that
I recently started experiencing some issues with my Kent Pearl (incidentally, bought around the same date this blog was first published :). Several frustrated phone calls later and after a routine job from the service technician from the dealer who I had bought this unit, the machine started working, but only for a couple of weeks
After more frustrated calls, and the technician not turning up at a conducive time, I decided to take matters to my own hands and did some research on the internet; that was when I found this fine article! It certainly helped me shed fears about opening the unit, which I did finally, and did a thorough cleaning job ensuring the water flow was unobstructed. The cleaning up of "Low Pressure Switch" really seemed to have done the trick at that time and my unit worked for 2 more weeks! I had also ordered a spare Low Pressure Switch through eBay, just as a reserve
Then when the machine started "coughing up" again this week (the "pressure" seemed to be good, flow was good, Sediment and Carbon filters were new, and the last service technician had assured me that RO membrane seemed to be good for another year, but the machine was refusing to stay in the "green light" stage for more than 1 second), I did some DIY stuff again, but to no avail
This time I called in a different service company, who seemed to have favorable internet reviews. Guess it is a generic thing with all the service companies - no one wants to commit on a particular time-slot for visit :) So finally when the technician arrived at 6PM for the 11:30AM appointment (Saturday was already ruined!), like an experienced surgeon asking for a scalpel from his assistants, he asked me for a knife! All he had done so far was to just switch on and off the unit a couple of times and check the pressure at "unit-end" of the raw water pipe (white). Sceptically when I handed over the "weapon" he had asked for, to my horror, he snipped out the "umbilical cord" (aka white pipe!) to a 4th of the length, connected it back to the unit, switched on the machine, and presto....the machine worked again!
Seeing the horror on my face, he eventually explained that the inlet pipe had gone brittle and there was a scale formation, which was preventing the pressure build up...so the "surgery" was essential :)
The good technician asked for just half the service charge, since he had not even had the need to open a single screw of the unit!
Lesson learnt for my next DIY,,,thought it might be a worthwhile information for other who might have experience / be experiencing similar situations, and shelled out big bucks

very well written intro article on kent pearl, specially ur notes about the technicians are very smart. yes, dealing the right way with them and understanding your product can make a difference, after all, if one values clean water specially in a country like India, then you should try and understand the concept of purifiers too,, also i completely agree with the money making stage with the spares,,,
i do have a couple of questions ...
1. pure water output has suddenly reduced..my kent pearl is about 2.5 years old and used not heavily at all,,, the guy came and tried shaking one of the filters and then blamed it on the RO membrane. Is there another way to increase the output...
2. If we have to change the RO membrane, like you mentioned, can you recommend a reliable local supplier , i heard of something like vittair somewhere is about 1500 rs as compared to kent membrane original 2400 rs...
thanks a lot and look forward..
Thanks for sharing.
I have my post towards the bottom of the page.
Your experience seems intersting.
Even i am considering doing some work myself. Did you find a good video somewhere or opening , closing was a hassle at all.
thanks..

Did you fix it urself finallly , how was the installation process, hassle of easy enough..

I bought KEN RO 2 and laf years back . Kent RO was working fine . Now Red light goes low and Green light goes off (outlet water stops), red light immediately becomes bright ,after 5 sec Green light turns ON and remain ON for 10 Sec , also outlet water flows. This keep repeating. Please let me know what should be the rreason.
2.5 years is super long time. its about time you change all the purifier components; ro membrane, all filters, reject valve and UV lamp to make sure your drinking water is safe.
also dont forget to change the filters if you have not done so in the last 6-9 months.
safe water comes at a cost! ;) which is cheaper than the cost of getting ill!
I checked AC plug , Line and neutral were short .
I ordered 24V / 2.5A DC adapter on Ebay.com and replaced the faulty DC adapter. Then it started working normal.

40 TDS is way too low, which is almost RO quality water interms of TDS.
you dont actually need a RO filter, a UF filter with UV is sufficient.
you could still go for RO since a low TDS also means a longer membrane life as the membrane will have to do less work of rejected the unwanted minerals.
you shouldnt be really worried about the ants, i have had no problem of ants getting in the container. infact its the cockroaches you should be worrried about.
and they can get into any space. all RO filters have some sort of opening somewhere so going by the ant theory is rubbish. you have to keep away the roaches not the ant!
my personal prefference is to have a detachable and transparent tank so i could visually check my water before i drink it. also you need to clean the tank every week. with a fixed and opaque tank you cant do much but believe that the water it holds is clean and that there are no bugs!
it takes me about 10 minutes to clean the tank (pearl model) you might need 30 min or so to clean a grand+ and that involves some screw driver business!
and my opinion doesnt matter, treat it as a word of caution. its your preference and choice. end of day you need to be satisfied with your purchase.
Good day

I am also one of the best RO Water Filter and it works perfect in order to clean the water impurities.
if your TDS is too hight, you may also try the ion exchange water softner (That converts hard water to softwater)
in my case TDS is about 700 and i have to change the RO every 4 months.
hope this helps.

Secondly, i would like to also thank all the people who have commented in this blog.
Product: Kent Grand+ Mineral RO
Q: Conitnous beep and no water outflow both from the tap and the waste water pipe (aprox. a year from purchase)?
A: Switch on the purifier and with unsharp side of a needle reset the UV Ballast. Voila it works!!! :)
If i wouldn't have come accross this blog and the readers who have commented; i would have eventually ended shelling out more than Rs.2000.
Thanks again!

The local dealer at Bangalore suggests to buy an Aqua pearl RO purifier instead of Aquaguard or kent.
Reason he says: poor service post installation.
Whereas for Aqua pearl RO purifier, the service is good and inexpensive.
Shall i go ahead purchasing the Aqua pearl RO?
kindly advise.

thanks for taking time to read this content.
if i were to sell my water purifier i would say just about anything and i would say things that wont even exist just to please you.
there is no "brand" that provides satisfactory service, every brand has its shortcoming.
so the best one can do is stick to a trusted "brand" why? because even though their service is not so satisfactory they come up with products that are designed well and has reliable parts.
my suggestion, better go with aquaguard or kent. the other one you mentioned, looks like a rip off of kent pearl which i would totally avoid.
a company that boast of ISO certification should come up with their own design and not copy someone else's.
what ever you buy, you should be happy with your purchase.
Thanks

I am using a Dolphin water purifier since past 3 years and maintained well but recently i done something wrong. i.e it was operated without water in the storage tank. and i have not recognized it till evening. and i found that the purifier is not turning ON. kindly let me know what might happed to it???
did you mean you operated the purifier without water in the overhead water tank? and do you have the low pressure switch installed?
thanks for sharing this blog, it is really very informative,
i have a question if you could help,
i am planning to install a ro, with a loft tank, (as i can not have any higher source of water) as guided by the engineer, he says it will not work for a long time due to less pressure, (also he suggested not to bypass the low preasure swtich)
now if i install a booster pump in addition to the ro, would it work.
kindly guide.
kushal a.
the idea of a loft tank (i am assuming you want to install this inside the house?) and another booster pump sounds messy and is not a good investment. think about the plumbing work.
think of going for a small regular tank instead of the loft tank and placing it with sufficent height. this will work cheaper.
or you can install a pressure booster pump to increase the pressure to your kitchen. this will cost a lot!
whats the height of your water tank from the kitchen sink height?
you dont need any such additional catridges. these are just to fool people.
mineral catridge, ph balancer, magnetic hardness remover iron remover are some of the useless stuff thats been sold.
make sure to set your water TDS to 50-100 and you are good.
Thanks for asking

Is there any negative impact if the unit (Kent Pearl) is kept unused for a long duration? If need be, what are the precautions required? Please advice
I read your article fully. How much water deliver a 100gpd ro filter? What is max filtration limit?
GPD is gallons per day - this is similar to saying motor bike is 100cc
usually the filters and membranes are rated for life time of processing 3000-4000 litres of water (purified water + reject water) assuming the TDS is low (i would say <300)

the pump inside the purifier waits for 5 seconds so UV lamp can process the water standing in the UV chamber and then the water flow starts.
by water valve do you mean the inlet valve? the inlet valve can be kept open, no harm in doing so. the solenoid valvel in the purifier does the job of shutting the valve on and off.

Please advise, can we replace post carbon filter with pre-carbon filter.
Thanks
Roshan.
the pre carbon and post carbon differ in their construction; pre carbon has smaller granules and post carbon has bigger granules or blocks. but essentially its carbon. its not an issue using a pre carbon instead of post carbon.
just make sure you flush the carbon filters well before connecting it to the system. you can take the output of the sediment filter and connect it to the input of the carbon filters and flush it well till the carbon filter output is clear water, then you can fix it up.

Many thanks for your valuable advise regarding pre-carbon and post-carbon.

if you want to bypass the pressure make sure water flows all the time while the purifier is ON.
i use a "bed switch" outside the casing and run 2 wires to the pressure switch contact, so i can bypass or enable the pressure switch as needed!

Next,I have Kent Grand Plus. Now a days when i turn on my system it works fine for 10-15 minutes after that it gets turned off by itself. If i try to restart it immediately then it doesn't get started. But if i leave it as it is for 20-25 minutes and then restart then it works fine for 10-15 minutes and again the same cycle repeats.
Can you please suggest the probable reason for this behaviour of my ststem? Which part need to be checked/replaced for repairing this fault?
Thanks in advance.
could be the so called microporocessor failure alarm system. i couldnt think of anything else. try reset-ing the purifier
Containerized wastewater plants & Sewage Water Treatment USA
could be the power supply; there is a SMPS power adapter that converts mains to 24v DC which is the supply to the circuit board that might be defective.
please ensure your main socket is working fine (check with a phone charger). if thats OK you might have to call for service tech.
Thanks

its a good practice to change all the filters once every year. why compromise on something important like drinking water. after all those filters would cost you just about a meal for two at your fav restaurant! thats a tiny price to pay for your health all year round!

I am having water Purifier, but it is having leakage like anything. I got to know we have high water pressure. Could you please let me how this problem can be solved and how much cost to resolve this???
Thanks in advance.
i dont think high pressure is the problem for the leakage, one of the pipe might have a bad fit. the pipe ends should be cut flat and smooth circle, cut it slightly crossed (ellipse) it wont fit properly, this might have happened during a recent service?
if you can identify exactly from which part there is a leak i can tell more.
eg is the leak near the pressure switch or at the inlet of the sediment filter and so on.
to reduce the pressure anyway simply close the inlet valve half way!
thanks for asking

What is the reason.. ?
Some time the water storage tank also overflow.
Which filter have problem tell me..
the pre-carbon filter does the work of removing chlorine.
Please reply!
i am not familiar with the brand, so cant comment. you may want to check about their after sale service from someone using AO smith purifiers.
if hot water is must for you then i guess you dont have much choice
for that price tag you might want to checkout some of LG's latest water purifier
stainless steel tank, auto membrane flush and active reflow-something thats keeps the water in the storage tank agitated and running it through the UV filter every once in a while.
Thanks for asking.

if the drinking water flow is good enough (not slow) you can give it some time in which case you have to reset the filter to shut that stupid alarm.
if you havent changed the filters or RO for a while (more than a year) its good time to replace everything.

After 1 year what all other parts are to be changed along with Carbon and sediment filter? Are post carbon, UF membrane, FRT, UV lamp has to be changed as well? Grand pearl Kent is the RO I am using.

It's very useful and nice content and Saffire Spring RO System established in 2011 has been pioneers in the field of manufacturing of Water Filters, Water Purifiers and Related Spare Parts. With our continuous research and development we have forayed into the field..
FRT and RO membrane needs to be changed together when there is a need.
obviously for kaveri water the tds will drop but its not a problem.
After 1 year should I change all the filters even if the TDS reading is found to be appropriate?
today i bought kent pride purifier which has RO+UF+TDs control but sad thing it doesn't have UV purification sir do i need to boil the water to kill the bacteria and germs does RO and UF will do this job ? ?
RO does the job of blocking all impurities and germs. No need to boil the water.
make sure you scrub and clean the tank every week or every other week because believe me it gets dirty!. since this model doesnt have transparent tank you should be careful about ants and othre bugs getting into it.

I am using Kent Grand Pearl
1. How we can calculate that RO membrane has to be replaced at what period? Raw water TDS is 225.
2. In all the filters 12 months replacement is mentioned but not mentioned in UF membrane. Why? Does that mean it will last lifetime?
1. over time and usage the RO membrane will lose its efficiency (due to blockage) output would slowly reduce. for your model it should take no more than 30-45mins to fill up. the more time it takes to fill up the more the energy used and more reject water. so you get the idea when to change.
2. nothing lasts a lifetime but when it comes to water based system its almost always going to fail sooner than it should.
you have to change the UF filter along with other filters every year or atleast every 18 months.
so go ahead and cancel that dinner outing and instead finance that fund to buy yourself the filters for one full year of safe drinking water!
cheers
to open the thing look for screws that holds the tank may be the sides. you may have to open the top case if thats the only way the screws can be accessed.
you dont have to shut the inlet valve unless you wont be using the machine for weeks. the solenoid valve shuts the inlet when the machine is off.
thanks for asking
i am happy and content with kent "kyu ki kent deta hai sabse shudh paani ka vadha"
Can you please let me know the specifications for FRT (such as 550, 450 ml etc) for Kent Grand Pearl? As technician had earlier fitted FRT with nothing mentioned on it but online I can see many options with some specs written over it. So which one should I buy?

a TDS of 1! you just got the purest form of water, its called distilled water!
well i guess it could be your TDS meter, there is something wrong with it. TDS of tap water cant be that low.
please check you TDS meter it may need a new battery may be.
as a reference, bottled water has tds somewhere between 20 to 40.

Yes the alarm came two months ago and ater a min stopped each day till after a few weeks the Kent pearl shut down. I was away and service guys never turned up even after repeated calls from my family. Last month after I returned and after some stern calls to the service guys turned up. Changed the choke costing Rs 900 with an apparantely used one. Also the UV light changed with new Rs 900. Kent pearl worked for two weeks. The same alarm started. I was away and each time while starting the alarm came for two weeks and then Kent pearl finally shut down.
Now I will have to open up the unit myself and search for the "RESET SWITCH" you mentioned.
Will the "reset switch" trick work if the unit has finally shutdown?
What would be your advice in my case? No use calling the service. You know them.
Will this work if the unit has finally shut down after the beep continuing every start up for around two weeks?
What needs to be done now?
you can buy it on ebay brands like hitech and kemflo will do.
make sure you buy the right voltage and lpm ratings

if the membrane was of kent brand, they should give atleast 6 months. its 1 year for a brand new RO membrane that came with the brand new purifier.
if your TDS is anything greater than 500 chances are it might fail early.

there is a beep sound in my RO purifier so i call a service service engg. from your center he replaces the faulty UV-C Radiation tube after that he switch on the RO it is working OK But after that he reset a button(Pressing button 10 to 15 second) which very inside the RO. as we ask why do you press this button he don't answer this many times i ask but he did not answer this question .
sir, i want to know what is the effect of pressing this button to membrane or any other parts.i purchased RO in july 2015
please answer this ques. or mail me at shailbsnlalg@gmail.com
thanks
the faulty UV lamp could have triggered the alarm if thats how the alarm system was deisgned. (i dont know exactly on what other occasions the beep sounds because its not a smart alarm system like i mentioned in the blog)
the reset button needs to be pressed to shut the beep sound and restart the purifier.
thanks for asking.

i have few questions.
1) the filtered water is not that tasty , but the filtered TDS is below 90 and filling time is also ok and input TDS is 800.. what could be the problem ?
2) if i fit kent candles for my RO filter .. will they work fine ?
3) if not kent .. which are the best unbranded RO candles that provide best taste ?

from start colour of light was light blue, now suddenly it has changed to green.
it this indication of any failure of any warning.
see if you can answer these
inlet water? no inlet water means no outlet water!
is the booster pump working?
is the solenoid valve working?
are the filters clear (no blockage)?
is the ro membrane blocked?

I am also using KENT PEARL RO since 2 years. The servicing part is regular for my RO. recently it has started making BEEP BEEP sound for a short time when it starts. I called my service man, and according to him, I should ignore the sound since all the functions are correctly working and he was not in mood investigate further.
I need your advice, if its ok to ignore the alarm sound or should I take some action. Your advice will be helpful to decide.
Meena
yes, you can ignore the alarm if the purifier is working fine.
Thanks.
